What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

Description

Flarin (ibuprofen) is used to help alleviate rheumatic and muscular pain. In addition, it is used to treat joint pain, back pain, nerve pain, migraines, headaches, dental pain, period pain, fevers, and cold and flu symptoms. It is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).

Flarin comes in 200 mg oral capsules.

Directions

Flarin should be taken per your doctor’s directions. You can speak with your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions or concerns.

Dosing for individuals 12 years old and older:

  • 1-2 capsules orally up to three times daily as needed
  • Do not take more than one dose within 4 hours
  • You should not exceed 1,200 mg (6 capsules) within 24 hours

Ingredients

The active ingredient contained in Flarin capsules is ibuprofen.

Contraindications

If you have an allergy to ibuprofen or to any of the other ingredients in Flarin, aspirin, or similar pain medications, avoid taking Flarin.

You should not take Flarin if you currently have or have ever had any of the following:

  • Asthma, rash, or itchy, runny nose that worsens when taking medications similar to Flarin
  • Stomach ulcer, perforation, or bleeding that has occurred at least two times
  • Stomach bleeding or perforation due to NSAIDs

If you are taking other NSAIDs or 75 mg or more of aspirin, you should not take Flarin.

If you are in your last trimester of pregnancy, you should not take Flarin.

If you have severe heart, liver, or kidney disease, you should not take Flarin.

Patients under 12 years old should not take Flarin.

Cautions

  • Before beginning treatment with Flarin medication, tell your doctor:
    • About all prescription and nonprescription medications you take
    • If you have any allergies
    • About your medical history
    • About your medical conditions
    • If you are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • An increased risk of heart attack or stroke may be associated with anti-inflammatory medications similar to Flarin, especially at high doses.
  • Skin reactions can be caused by Flarin. If you develop skin rashes, lesions, blisters, or any other adverse reaction, immediately seek medical attention.
  • Flarin can rarely cause life-threatening skin rashes. Immediately seek medical attention and stop taking Flarin if you develop a skin rash or any other sign of an allergic reaction.

Side Effects

Some, but not all, side effects associated with Flarin include the following: increased bleeding, allergic reactions, skin reactions, stomach pain, indigestion, heartburn, headache, and vomiting. Immediately talk to your doctor if you experience persistent or concerning side effects.
