What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

Flagyl S (metronidazole benzoate suspension) is a prescription medication used to treat bacterial infections caused by anaerobic microorganisms. It works by interfering with the DNA of the bacteria, ultimately leading to their death.

It is used for many different bacterial infections, including:

  • Bacterial vaginosis
  • Balantidiasis

Routes of administration



For adults, the dose varies from 400-1000 mg (10-25 mL) based on the reason for treatment. It is typically given every eight hours.

The dose for children is based on weight and will be determined by the doctor.

Take Flagyl S as directed and finish the entire course of treatment, even if symptoms improve before the medication is completed. Failure to complete the entire course of treatment may result in the infection returning or becoming more difficult to treat.


The active ingredient in Flagyl S is metronidazole benzoate, a synthetic antibacterial and antiprotozoal agent.

Using Flagyl S for longer than prescribed may contribute to the development of a superinfection like Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
