What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

FINACEA gel (Azelaic acid) is a medication prescribed to treat rosacea. Rosacea is a condition that causes the skin to redden with small, red, bumps and acne on the face. Rosacea most commonly affects middle-aged women who have fair skin.

The exact mechanism of FINACEA gel in rosacea is unclear and it is thought to work via two different ways. FINACEA gel prevents pores from clogging and also has some antibacterial properties against Cutibacterium acnes and Staphylococcus epidermidis.

Directions

Apply FINACEA twice daily to the affected area to treat rosacea. Speak with your doctor if you do not see improvement within 12 weeks.

Before applying, wash and dry the affected area with a mild soap. After application, wash the hands.

FINACEA gel should only be applied to the skin. Avoid getting into the eyes.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in FINACEA gel is azelaic acid.

The inactive ingredients in FINACEA gel include benzoic acid, disodium-EDTA, lecithin, medium-chain triglycerides, polyacrylic acid, polysorbate 80, propylene glycol, purified water, and sodium hydroxide.
