Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Fasenra is a prescription medication to treat asthma and given as an injection for eosinophilic asthma treatment where activated white blood cells (eosinophils) cause inflammation of the airways into the lungs. The standard asthma attack symptoms of breathing difficulties, wheezing, and chest pain / tightness apply but the cause of the asthma is different and there is not the same connection to inflammation or muscle constriction. The active ingredient in Fasenra is Benralizumab and it works by binding to the interleukin-5 receptor in the eosinophils and signaling the body’s immune system to attack and eliminate those cells.
For most patients Fasenra dosing will have them administering 1 injection every 8 weeks
Medication may be self-administered, or you can arrange to have a doctor give it to you
Fasenra pen should be allowed to warm up to room temperature for 30 minutes prior to injection
Use Fasenra pen within 14 days of being removed from refrigerator
Use viewing window on pen to confirm medication in it is clear and colorless before injection
Injection spot can be back of upper arms, abdomen (excluding 2” radius around navel), or upper things
Pull cap off pen and retain it to cover needle after injection
Pinch skin at injection site to create a firm injection surface
Place needle guard of Fasenra pen flat against your skin at a 90-degree angle
Press down firmly and listen for an audible ‘click’ sound that indicates the injection has begun
Hold down for approximately 15 seconds and wait to hear 2nd click sound that indicates your injection has been completed
Lift Fasenra pen straight up and look to see needle guard come back down to cover needle
Viewing window should be fully filled with green bar if entire injection has been fully administered
Dispose of pen properly
The active ingredient in Fasenra is Benralizumab

Inform your doctor if you are taking any oral or inhaled corticosteroid medications or if you have a parasitic (helminth) infection before starting on Fasenra

Fasenra can be stored at room temperature (up to 77 degrees F) for up to 14 days

Fasenra side effects are possible, and some users may have injection site pain, headache, mild fever, sore throat, or drug hypersensitivity. If side effects are seen it may be best to stop use and speak to your doctor again about eosinophilic asthma treatment alternatives.
