What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

EPILYT lotion (propylene glycol-glycerin) is an over-the-counter (OTC) topical medication that can be used to treat rough, dry, and scaly skin. The most common conditions that it treats includes:

  • Burns from radiation therapy
  • Diaper rash
  • Dry skin
  • Itchy skin
  • Rough skin

EPILYT Lotion is an emollient. Emollients work by trapping moisture into the skin to prevent dryness and flaking. Emollients can also moisturize and soften the skin.

Use EPILYT Lotion as directed on the package. If your doctor has directed you to take this, use it according to their directions.

Wash and dry the affected area before applying EPILYT Lotion. You can apply the lotion with gloves or with bare skin if you wash your hands after application.

The active ingredients in EPILYT Lotion are propylene glycol and glycerin.

The inactive ingredients may vary from product to product. Since EPILYT Lotion is an OTC, many different manufacturers produce it with different formulations.

If you experience an allergic skin reaction while using this product, stop taking it and call your doctor.
