What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Dupixent (dupilumab) is available as a subcutaneous injection for the treatment of atopic dermatitis, asthma, chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps, eosinophilic esophagitis, and prurigo nodularis.

Dupixent single-dose prefilled syringes with needle shields are available in the following concentrations:

  • 300 mg/2 mL
  • 200 mg/1.14 mL
  • 100 mg/0.67 mL

Ingredients

The active ingredient in Dupixent is dupilumab. L-arginine hydrochloride, L-histidine, polysorbate 80, sodium acetate, sucrose, and water for injection are the inactive ingredients included.

Contraindications

Dupixent should not be administered to patients who are allergic to any of its ingredients or excipients.

Cautions

  • Before you start treatment with Dupixent injections, inform your doctor of:
    • All the medications you take
    • Your allergies
    • Your current health problems and past medical history
    • Your pregnancy or breastfeeding status
  • Hypersensitivity reactions, including anaphylaxis, serum sickness, swelling underneath the skin, hives, rash, tender bumps under the skin, and skin lesions, may occur during treatment with Dupixent. Seek immediate medical care if you develop any of these reactions.
  • Eye problems may occur during treatment with Dupixent. Call your doctor immediately if you have eye symptoms.
  • Call your doctor immediately if you develop a rash, worsening pulmonary symptoms, and/or nerve pain.
  • Corticosteroids should not be stopped abruptly when you start Dupixent treatment. Slow taper off steroids.
  • Call your doctor immediately if you have problems with your joints during treatment with Dupixent.
  • Be sure to receive treatment for helminth infections before you begin using Dupixent.
  • Patients on Dupixent should not receive live vaccines.

Side Effects

Conjunctivitis, blepharitis, oral herpes, keratitis, itchy eyes, other herpes simplex virus infection, dry eye, eosinophilia, injection site reactions, mouth or throat pain, problems sleeping, toothache, gastritis, joint pain, and upper respiratory tract infections are some Dupixent side effects; however, these are not the only side effects that can occur. If you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away, contact your doctor.
