What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

Doryx is an antibacterial medication that your healthcare provider may prescribe to treat a variety of conditions that are caused by bacterial infection

Doryx is most commonly prescribed to treat long-term acne. Acne is a skin condition where red, bumpy, sometimes painful spots appear on the skin of the face. Acne is most common in teenagers but may be present in adults as well. It can be long-term or resolve quickly on its own.

It is unclear how Doryx helps to treat acne, but it is thought that bacteria are one of the causes of moderate to severe acne.

Directions

The usual dosage of Doryx is 100 mg twice daily on the first day, and then 100 mg by mouth once daily.

The doctor may increase the dose to 100 mg twice daily if the acne is severe.

Take Doryx with a full glass of water.

Take Doryx 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal. Avoid taking it with multivitamins that contain minerals or foods that are high in calcium.
