The drug works as a thrombopoietin receptor agonist that tells the bone marrow to make more platelets. Take Doptelet with food to help your body absorb it. For people with chronic liver disease who are preparing for a procedure, it is taken for 5 days starting 10 to 13 days before the procedure. The procedure should be scheduled 5 to 8 days after the last dose. The dosage is typically 40 or 60 mg per day, depending on how low a person's platelet count is.
For adults and children aged 6 and older with chronic immune thrombocytopenia, the usual starting dose is 20 mg (one tablet) once daily. A healthcare provider may change the dose or how often you take it based on regular blood tests, with the goal of keeping platelet count at or above 50 × 10?/L. The maximum dosage for those with this condition is 40 mg per day.
Children ages 1 to under 6 use Doptelet Sprinkle granules, usually starting at 10 mg daily. Do not replace tablets with granules, or granules with tablets, because their doses are not equivalent.
The active ingredient in Doptelet is avatrombopag. Inactive ingredients include colloidal silicon dioxide, crospovidone, lactose monohydrate, magnesium stearate, and microcrystalline cellulose, with a coating film of ferric oxide yellow, polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl alcohol, talc, and titanium dioxide. Doptelet Sprinkle granules may contain crospovidone Type A, magnesium stearate, mannitol, microcrystalline cellulose, and sodium lauryl sulfate, inside a hypromellose capsule shell.
There are no contraindications for Doptelet in the drug label.
Common side effects of Doptelet include:
Seek immediate medical help if you develop pain, warmth, redness, or swelling in one leg, sudden shortness of breath, chest pain, a crushing headache, slurred speech, or weakness down one side. In severe cases, this medication may cause bleeding that will not stop, blood in the urine or stool, black tarry stools, vomit that resembles coffee grounds, or a nosebleed. Consult a healthcare provider if you experience jaundice, a swollen abdomen, or new confusion, especially if you have liver disease. In rare cases, this medication may cause signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as a rash that blisters, swelling of the face, lips, or throat, and difficulty breathing.
