A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Cyklokapron is used to prevent excessive bleeding in patients with traumatic hyphaema (bleeding into the front part of the eye), blood clotting disorders, who are having minor surgery, heavy menstrual bleeding, hereditory angioneurotic oedema (periodic swelling of the throat).
Take this medication by mouth, usually 2 to 4 times daily or as directed by your doctor. The dosage and length of treatment is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Dosage is also based on your weight. Do not increase your dose, take it more frequently, or take it for a longer time than prescribed. Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same times each day. Tell your doctor if your condition persists or worsens.
Before taking tranexamic acid, tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to it; or if you have any other allergies. This medication should not be used if you have certain medical conditions. Before using this medicine, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have current blood clots (e.g., in the legs, lungs, brain, eye), bleeding in the brain (subarachnoid hemorrhage), color vision problems. Before using this medication, tell your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of history of blood clots, a certain serious blood clotting problem (disseminated intravascular coagulation-DIC), kidney problems (including blood in the urine), irregular menstrual bleeding of unknown cause. This drug may make you dizzy. Use caution while driving, using machinery, or doing any activity that requires alertness. Limit alcoholic beverages. Kidney function declines as you grow older. This medication is removed by the kidneys. Therefore, the elderly may be more sensitive to the effects of this drug. During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor. This drug passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
