What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.


Credelio Plus (lotilaner and milbemycin oxime) is a medication used to treat ticks and fleas PLUS worms (gastrointestinal and lung) PLUS it prevents heartworm disease in dogs; it is prescribed by a licensed veterinarian.


Credelio Plus comes in chewable tablets with five different strengths. Dosing is dependent upon your dog's weight. Appropriate dosing and scheduling should be discussed with your veterinarian. Your vet will provide instructions on how to properly administer Credelio Plus to your dog. 

Administer Credelio Plus with food or after your dog's meal. 

Humans should not use Credelio Plus. Children and other pets should be kept out of reach from the medication. 


The active ingredients contained in Credelio Plus are lotilaner and milbemycin oxime.


  • Before administering Credelio Plus to your dog, discuss with your vet if your dog:
    • Takes any medications
    • Has any allergies
    • Has any medical conditions
    • Is pregnant or nursing
  • Neurological adverse reactions such as tremors, balance and coordination problems, and seizures have been associated with lotilaner, an isoxazoline. Dogs without a history of seizures may experience seizures. Dogs that have a history of seizures or neurological problems should be administered Credelio Plus with caution. 

Side Effects

Weight loss, diarrhea, vomiting, muscle tremors, lack of energy, itching, and behavioral changes are side effects associated with Credelio Plus. If your dog develops worrisome or persistent side effects, immediately call your vet.
