Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Cortrophin Gel (repository corticotropin injection) is a purified sterile preparation of the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) in gelatin, indicated for the treatment of several inflammatory and autoimmune conditions. It stimulates the adrenal cortex to secrete endogenous corticosteroids and is used in disorders responsive to corticosteroids, including multiple sclerosis (MS) exacerbations, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), sarcoidosis, and certain nephrotic syndromes. Cortrophin Gel is a long-acting formulation administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly, offering an alternative for patients who are unresponsive to or unable to tolerate oral corticosteroids.

Cortrophin Gel is administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection. Dosage varies by indication and patient response, typically ranging from 40 to 80 units daily or every other day. For multiple sclerosis exacerbations, the recommended dose is 80–120 units daily for 2 to 3 weeks. In nephrotic syndrome or rheumatologic conditions, dosing and duration should be individualized. The product must be shaken well before use and injected using aseptic technique. Therapy should be tapered gradually after a treatment course to avoid adrenal insufficiency.

Use caution in patients with diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, peptic ulcer disease, osteoporosis, or psychiatric disorders, as ACTH-induced steroidogenesis may exacerbate these conditions. Long-term use may lead to adrenal suppression, increased susceptibility to infections, Cushingoid features, and growth retardation in pediatric patients. Monitor electrolyte balance, blood pressure, blood glucose, and signs of infection regularly during treatment.
