What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Clobex Shampoo (clobetasol propionate) is a topical medication used to treat moderate to severe scalp psoriasis in adults who are 18 years and older. It contains a corticosteroid that helps reduce inflammation caused by scalp psoriasis.

Directions

Clobex Shampoo is available in a 0.05% strength. The recommended application is to apply the shampoo to dry scalp once daily. Leave it on the scalp for about 15 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Do not let Clobex Shampoo enter the eyes. If it does, rinse with water immediately. Treatment duration should not exceed 4 weeks. Follow the Clobex Shampoo directions presented on the drug label and those given by your healthcare provider before starting treatment.

Contraindications

Share your allergy history with your doctor. You should not use Clobex Shampoo if you are allergic to clobetasol or any other ingredients in the shampoo.

Cautions

  • Before you start treatment with Clobex Shampoo, inform your doctor:
    • About all the medications you currently take, including other topical medications, over-the-counter drugs, and supplements
    • About all your pre-existing medical conditions, including diabetes, liver disease, and skin infections.
    • If you are undergoing surgery. 
    • If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Clobex Shampoo could potentially harm an unborn child. 
    • If you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Clobetasol can be absorbed into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. 
  • Clobex Shampoo can cause a variety of side effects and adverse reactions. Reach out to your doctor promptly if you experience severe itching, redness, swelling, or any other signs of an allergic reaction. 
  • Clobex Shampoo should not be used on the face, underarms, or groin area unless directed by your doctor. 
  • Clobex Shampoo may cause HPA axis suppression. If you notice weight loss, fatigue, or muscle weakness, immediately consult your doctor. 
  • Clobex Shampoo can cause eye problems. Immediately consult your doctor if you experience blurred vision, or other vision disturbances. 
  • The use of Clobex Shampoo may result in local adverse reactions, including skin thinning, stretch marks, spider veins, and skin color changes. 
  • Prolonged use of Clobex Shampoo may lead to a condition known as Cushing's syndrome. Symptoms include weight gain in your upper body and face, a rounded face, thin skin, and easy bruising.
