What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Cautions

  • Before starting this medication, consider discussing the following points with your healthcare professional:
    • Any other medications you're taking, as Orphenadrine can interact with other drugs, potentially increasing their effects or causing adverse reactions.
    • Existing medical conditions, which could be worsened by Orphenadrine. Ensure your doctor is aware of any neurological or gastrointestinal issues.
    • If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. Norflex may not be suitable during pregnancy, and your physician needs to be informed.

  • Norflex can affect your ability to do things that require concentration, like operating machines or driving. Be careful if you're moving around after taking it.
  • Norflex injections contain sodium bisulfite which can cause severe allergic reactions, particularly in asthmatic individuals. These reactions are rare, but more common in people with asthma.
  • If you're feeling confused, anxious, or shaky, and you're also taking painkillers like propoxyphene, there may be a risk of adverse effects. You may need to reduce the dose or stop taking one or both drugs.
  • Be cautious with Norflex if you have a fast heartbeat, heart problems, or irregular heart rhythms.
  • The safety of taking Norflex for a long time isn't known. If you're on Norflex for a while, you may need regular tests to check your blood, urine, and liver.
  • During pregnancy, Norflex should only be used if absolutely necessary, as its safety for unborn babies is uncertain.

Side Effects

Some individuals taking Norflex may experience adverse effects. Typically, these could include lightheadedness, drowsiness, fatigue, an upset stomach, nausea, constipation, and dry mouth. Norflex may also cause serious side effects that require medical attention, such as hallucinations and involuntary muscle movements. Allergic reactions to this medication could develop as rash, hives, facial or throat swelling, and trouble breathing. If side effects persist or worsen, consult a healthcare professional immediately.
