A healthcare professional typically applies Ycanth after being trained to use it safely. It's important to wear gloves and eye protection, check the applicator for damage, and open it using the supplied tool. If an applicator is cracked or broken, it is placed in a sharps container and not used.
Ycanth is applied once to each wart or bump, using no more than two applicators per visit. It is for use on the skin only and must be kept away from the eyes, mouth, other moist body areas, and healthy skin. Any accidental contact should be wiped off immediately.
Treatment may be repeated every three weeks until the bumps clear, and the treated area should be washed with soap and water after 24 hours, or sooner if a severe skin reaction occurs.
The active ingredient in Ycanth is cantharidin. Inactive ingredients may include acetone, camphor, castor oil, denatonium benzoate, ethanol 32%, gentian violet, hydroxypropyl cellulose, and nitrocellulose.
There are no contraindications for Ycanth in the drug label.
Common side effects of Ycanth include:
