What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Cambia differs from most migraine pain medications in that it is in powder form and not available as a pill like most similar medications will be. Cambia should be taken immediately upon the onset of a migraine headache. Cambia must be mixed with water, as the medications is activated in a unique way when it’s placed in water.

Tear open one packet of Cambia and pour the powder into a glass of 1 to 2 ounces of water. Stir it quickly with a spoon to dissolve the medication into the water and then drink the entirety of the glass right away. Do not take more than one packet of Cambia at a time or any time over the course of the next 12 hours.

The active ingredient in this migraine pain medication is Diclofenac Potassium.

Cambia is for adult use only. People under the age of 18 should not use this medication and there are other migraine pain relief alternatives. Do not use aspirin or other NSAID medications while using Cambia to treat migraine headaches.

Cambia can cause an increased risk of a heart attack or stroke that can lead to death, and this risk is increased with continued use of NSAID medicines for people who have heart disease. Be aware that Cambia should not be used right before or after CABG (coronary artery bypass graft) heart surgery.

Excessive use of this medication may result in increased risk of stomach ulcers, or general stomach bleeding. Be sure not to exceed dosage specifications as they are indicated with your prescription. Cambia should not be used by people who have advanced stage liver disease.

It is best to avoid alcohol consumption while using this migraine headache medication.

Side Effects

Use caution with taking Cambia if you are taking other medications containing aspirin, ibuprofen, ketoprofen, or naproxen. There is the possibility of interaction risks in these instances, and it is best to discuss any and all Rx or OTC medications you take regularly before receiving a prescription for Cambia from your physician.

Side effects related to the use of this migraine pain medication are uncommon, but may include stomach pain, constipation, diarrhea, gas, heartburn, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. There is also the possibility of triggering asthma attacks in asthmatics who are using Cambia.

If any of these symptoms occur then you must discontinue use of the medication immediately and speak with your physician regarding migraine headache pain relief alternatives.
