What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Description

Calcipotriol is a prescription medication to treat psoriasis and provide relief from the red and scaly skin patches that occur with this skin condition for sufferers. Calcipotriene is a synthetic Vitamin D3 derivative that relieves psoriasis by inhibiting the skin's ability for excessive skin cell production needed to support the growth of psoriasis plaques on the skin. Calcipotriol can work especially well as a psoriasis treatment but users should understand up to 8 weeks may be required to see optimal treatment results when using this medication.

Directions

Applying cream twice daily at an even interval is the standard guideline for Calcipotriol cream.

Wash your hands.

Apply a thin layer of cream to the skin area affected with psoriasis plaques.

Rub the cream into the skin until fully absorbed.

Wash your hands after each application.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in Calcipotriol is Calcipotriene.

Cautions

This medication is approved for ages 12 and up only, and any reference to Calcipotriol hair growth with patients using the cream is not made.

Inform your doctor of any history of hypercalcemia (high blood calcium levels) or overly high Vitamin D levels before beginning on Calcipotriol.

Use of medication may not be possible if you are receiving phototherapy treatment for psoriasis.

Medication use may increase sunlight sensitivity and it is best to use sun protection on treated areas if individuals are spending prolonged time in the sun during their treatment.

Use only if pregnant or breastfeeding if a doctor approves doing so.

Interactions

Negative drug interaction risks are possible between Calcipotriol and other Rx and OTC medications, including celecoxib / ubiquinone / duloxetine / fluticasone / adalimumab / pregabalin / metoprolol polyethylene glycol / esomeprazole / apremilast / acetaminophen / cyanocobalamin / cholecalciferol / diclofenac topical / bupropion / alprazolam

Side Effects
