What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Directions

Briviact is available in tablets, an oral solution, and an injection:

Tablets: 10 mg, 25 mg, 50 mg, 75 mg, 100 mg

Oral solution: 10 mg/mL

Injection: 50 mg/5 mL single-dose vial

Briviact Dosing

Adults 16 years of age and older:

Recommended starting dose for monotherapy or adjunctive treatment: 50 mg twice daily

Pediatric patients 1 month old to less than 16 years old:

The dose is given two times a day by mouth based on body weight.

Injection: 

The intravenous injection should only be used when oral administration is temporarily not available.

The dose may be adjusted in patients who have liver impairment.

Ingredients

The active ingredient in Briviact is brivaracetam.

Contraindications

Talk to your doctor about your allergies. You should not take Briviact if you are allergic to any of the ingredients contained in Briviact.

Cautions

  • Briviact may interact with certain medications. Tell your doctor about all the medications you take, including all prescription and over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and supplements.
  • The risk for suicidal behavior or ideation may be increased while taking Briviact. Contact your doctor right immediately if you develop mood changes, behavioral changes, or suicidal thoughts, behavior, ideation, or self harm.
  • Briviact can make you feel drowsy, tired, dizzy, or cause coordination problems. You should not drive or operate machinery until you know how you tolerate Briviact.
  • The risk for psychotic symptoms, depression, anxiety, irritability, and aggression may be increased while taking Briviact. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop any psychotic symptoms or reactions.
  • Stopping Briviact all of a sudden may cause increased seizures and status epilepticus. Briviact should be tapered when being discontinued.
  • Briviact may harm an unborn baby. Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant. 
  • Let your doctor know if you are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed. Benefits versus risks should be considered. 

Side Effects

Briviact can cause side effects, including dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, nausea, and vomiting. However, these are not all of the possible side effects. Contact your doctor immediately if you develop any other side effects.
