What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.

Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Description

The Bricanyl inhaler is a prescription asthma medication. It is an asthma rescue inhaler that provides fast-acting relief when asthma attacks occur with the bronchodilator Terbutaline working to quickly open the airways into the lungs. Most people experience relief and breathe easier within 5 minutes of taking an inhalation. The Bricanyl turbuhaler can also be indicated for people with chronic bronchitis or as an emphysema inhaler for treatment. An average of 5 to 7 hours of relief is normal, but asthma rescue inhalers will have different levels of effectiveness based on the individual.

Directions

Take one inhaled dose of Bricanyl from the inhaler at the first sign an asthma attack is underway.

Unscrew and lift off?cap.?

Hold?turbuhaler?upright and twist colored base around and then all the way back. This loads and prepares the dose for inhalation.

Exhale your breath, and you should be facing away from the?Turbuhaler?when exhaling like this.

Place mouthpiece in mouth and have mouth forming a firm seal over the inhaler tip.

Breathe in through mouth forcefully and deeply. Next remove?Turbuhaler?from the mouth and hold breath for 5 seconds.

Breathe out gently away from?the Turbuhaler, and then put the cap back in place.

Take additional doses as needed for emergency asthma attack relief, but taking any more than 6 doses in day is not allowed. If medication is ineffective you can speak to your doctor to discuss treatment approaches that might be more effective for you.
