What is a Generic Drug?

Description

Binosto is a unique formulation of alendronate sodium that dissolves in water for people with difficulty swallowing. Binosto can be prescribed for postmenopausal women with osteoporosis or men with osteoporosis.

Binosto helps to slow the breakdown of bone and, in some cases, rebuild it. The bones matrix includes osteoclasts, which are always breaking down bone, and osteoblasts, which are always rebuilding it. 

Binosto incorporates into the bone matrix to prevent osteoclasts from breaking down bone. After several years of usage, Binosto can rebuild bone mass.

Routes of administration

By mouth

Directions

Take one Binosto 70 mg tablet by mouth once weekly.

Binosto should not be swallowed whole. Dissolve the tablet in 4 oz of room temperature water, waiting five minutes for it to dissolve fully. Stir the contents for 10 seconds, and consume the contents.

Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking Binosto and do not eat or drink anything for 30 minutes.

Alendronate sodium is the active ingredient in Binosto effervescent tablets. 

Interactions

Common drug-drug interactions with Binosto may include:

  • Aminoglycosides
  • Aspirin
  • Ibuprofen
  • Naproxen
  • Parathyroid hormone
  • Proton pump inhibitors

Cautions

Tell your doctor if you have a history of low blood calcium or calcium problems. 

Tell your doctor if you have a history of kidney problems before starting Binosto.

Rare side effects of Binosto include osteonecrosis of the jaw and atypical femur fractures.

Do not take Binosto if you are on a sodium restricted diet.
