Aventyl (nortriptyline) 10 mg and 25 mg oral capsules are available by prescription only.
Follow your doctor’s instructions on how to take Aventyl. Discuss any concerns or questions with your doctor or pharmacist.
Adults are recommended to take 25 mg by mouth three to four times a day. No more than 100 mg per day should be taken.
A lower dose may be needed in older patients and adolescents.
The active ingredient contained in Aventyl is nortriptyline hydrochloride, a tricyclic antidepressant. Inactive ingredients include corn starch, gelatin, lactose, silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulphate, stearic acid, talc, titanium dioxide, D and C yellow #10, and FD and C yellow #6.
Patients who are taking a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) or have taken an MAOI within the past 14 days should not take Aventyl.
Patients who are allergic to nortriptyline should not take Aventyl.
Patients who are recovering from a heart attack should not take Aventyl.
Blood pressure changes, heart arrhythmias, heart attack, stroke, mental status changes, numbness, tingling, dry mouth, vision problems, allergic reactions, abnormal blood counts, nausea, vomiting, liver problems, and endocrine problems are side effects associated with Aventyl; however, patients may experience other side effects as well. If you have side effects that bother you or won’t go away, contact your doctor.
