Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.

Austedo XR dosing is typically started at a low level and increased gradually based on a patient’s needs and tolerance. Tablets should be swallowed whole with food and never crushed or chewed. Follow your doctor’s prescribed schedule closely and do not stop the medication without medical guidance.
Each Austedo XR tablet contains deutetrabenazine as the active ingredient, along with inactive excipients such as lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and extended-release coating agents to ensure consistent absorption.
Austedo XR can interact with alcohol, monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), reserpine, strong CYP2D6 inhibitors, and other drugs that affect serotonin or dopamine. Patients should share a complete list of medications, vitamins, or supplements with their healthcare provider before starting treatment.
Patients with depression, suicidal tendencies, liver impairment, or irregular heart rhythms should use this medication only under strict medical supervision. Austedo XR may cause drowsiness; therefore, activities like driving should be avoided until its effects are clear. Women who are pregnant or nursing should consult their doctor before use.
Austedo XR side effects may include fatigue, diarrhea, dry mouth, sleep disturbances, or dizziness. More serious but less common reactions include mood changes or suicidal thoughts, which should be addressed immediately with a healthcare professional.
