Armonair (Fluticasone Propionate)

Description

ArmonAir Digihaler (fluticasone propionate) is prescribed to patients with asthma who are 12 years of age and older.

ArmonAir Digihaler comes as an inhaler powder that delivers 55 mcg, 113 mcg, or 232 mcg of fluticasone propionate per actuation.

Directions

ArmonAir Digihaler should be used as your healthcare provider has directed. He or she will decide on a treatment plan depending on treatments you’ve previously been on and how severe your asthma is.

For product use information, refer to the medication guide that accompanies your prescription. Discuss any questions or concerns with your healthcare provider or pharmacist.

Recommended ArmonAir Digihaler dosing: Inhale one puff by mouth twice daily. Avoid using the inhaler with a spacer or volume holding chamber.

Keep ArmonAir Digihaler in its foil pouch until you use it. Keep it at room temperature between 15°F and 25°C (59°F and 77°F) and away from moisture. Avoid storing the inhaler in extreme hot, cold, or humid conditions. Store out of reach of children. You may appropriately dispose of ArmonAir Digihaler 30 days after opening or when the counter reads “0”, whichever comes first.

Ingredients

Fluticasone propionate is the active ingredient in ArmonAir Digihaler.

Alpha lactose monohydrate (contains milk proteins) is the inactive ingredient.

Contraindications

Status asthmaticus or other acute asthmatic episodes that require intensive measures should not be primarily treated with ArmonAir Digihaler. ArmonAir Digihaler should not be used in patients with an allergy to milk proteins or to any of the ingredients in the inhaler.

Cautions

• Before you start treatment with ArmonAir Digihaler, the following should be discussed with your healthcare provider:
• All the prescription and nonprescription medications you take, including vitamins, herbals, and supplements
• Your allergies
• Your current health problems
• Your past medical history
• If you are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Do not use ArmonAir Digihaler as a rescue inhaler.
• The following may occur with ArmonAir Digihaler use:
• Localized infections, including mouth and throat fungal infections. It is recommended that patients rinse their mouth with water and spit after use.
• Weakened immune system that may result in worsened tuberculosis, fungal, bacterial, viral, or parasitic infections or herpes simplex eye infections.
• Risk of adrenal dysfunction when transferring to ArmonAir Digihaler from systemic corticosteroid therapy. Patients should be slowly withdrawn from corticosteroids when transferring to ArmonAir Digihaler.
• Hypercorticism and adrenal suppression, especially when using high doses. This can also occur at normal doses in susceptible patients.
• Reduced bone mineral density.
• Paradoxical bronchospasm.
• Growth should be monitored in pediatrics who use ArmonAir Digihaler.
• The development of glaucoma and cataracts should be closely monitored.

Side Effects

ArmonAir Digihaler side effects include but are not limited to upper respiratory tract infection, nasopharyngitis, mouth or throat fungal infection, headache, and cough. Notify your healthcare provider right away if you develop worrisome or persistent side effects.
