Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Alvesco is an inhaled corticosteroid used to treat asthma. It works by reducing inflammation in the airways, making it easier to breathe. This medicine comes as a spray you use with a special inhaler device. Alvesco is used to prevent asthma symptoms like wheezing, tightness in the chest, and trouble breathing in people 12 years old and older. Regular use is important for best results. It is not intended to relieve sudden asthma attacks.

When using Alvesco, start by removing the inhaler's plastic cap. You do not need to shake the inhaler before use. For new or unused inhalers for more than 10 days, priming is needed by releasing 3 test sprays.
Hold the inhaler with the middle or index finger placed on top of the canister, and the thumb underneath the mouthpiece. Inhale the medication through the mouth, pressing down firmly on the canister to release the dose. The standard Alvesco dosage is 80 to 320 mcg twice daily, as directed by a healthcare provider. Hold your breath for a few seconds after inhalation to help the medication settle.
Replace the inhaler once the dose indicator shows zero. Always follow the prescribing doctor's instructions for use and dosage.
The active ingredient in Alvesco is ciclesonide.
Avoid using Alvesco if any of the following apply:
The most common side effects of Alvesco include headache, nasal or throat swelling, sinus inflammation, and upper respiratory infections. Some people may also experience throat pain, joint pain, nasal congestion, or aches in the arms, legs, or back. These symptoms are generally mild but should be monitored if they persist or worsen over time.
Alvesco may cause serious side effects such as fungal infections in the mouth or throat, weakened immune response, or adrenal insufficiency—especially during transitions from oral steroids. Other risks include decreased bone density, slowed growth in children, and eye problems like glaucoma or cataracts. In rare cases, increased wheezing (bronchospasm) may occur right after using Alvesco, which requires immediate treatment with a rescue inhaler and follow-up care. Let your healthcare provider know about any unusual symptoms or concerns during use.
