What is a Generic Drug?

Ingredients

The active ingredients in Alcortin A are iodoquinol, hydrocortisone acetate, and aloe vera leaf

Iodoquinol is an anti-infective agent that works against bacteria and fungi. The mechanism for its anti-infective properties is unclear.

Hydrocortisone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation. Many skin conditions are caused by the inflammation and activation of the immune system. Hydrocortisone works by reducing the chemical signals leading to inflammation. It also increases the absorption of Alcortin A.

Interactions

Known drug-drug interactions with Alcortin A include:

  • Aldesleukin
  • Calcipotriene

Do not mix Alcortin A with other topical medications, including prescription and over-the-counter (OTC) treatments. 

Cautions

Alcortin A should only be used externally; do not ingest.

Keep away from eyes and other sensitive areas. 

Use with caution if you have a history of kidney or liver problems. 

Tell your doctor if you have a history of thyroid disease or osteoporosis.

Long-term use of hydrocortisone cream may increase the risk of certain side effects, like skin sensitization.
