Terms & Conditions of Program
A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.
The only differences between generics and their brand-name counterparts is that generics are less expensive and may look slightly different (eg. different shape or color), as trademarks laws prevent a generic from looking exactly like the brand-name drug.
Generics are less expensive because generic manufacturers don't have to invest large sums of money to develop a drug. When the brand-name patent expires, generic companies can manufacture a copy of the brand-name and sell it at a substantial discount.
Accu-Check is a brand of blood sugar testing devices used to check blood sugar. You may need to check your blood sugar if you have type 1 diabetes mellitus or type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Your doctor may ask you to check your blood sugar between one to four times per day. Blood sugar testing helps determine the correct dose of medication, whether medication is working, and the overall control of diabetes.
Use a new alcohol pad to clean the area for testing. You should choose one of your fingers in a spot off to the side of the finger pad. Do not test using the pad (tip) of the fingers. Wait for the alcohol to dry before going to the next step.
Get a lancet and insert it into the lancing device. Use the lancing device to poke a small hole in the skin of your finger.
Insert a test strip into the glucometer - this will turn the machine on.
Lightly push the skin near the poke until a bead of blood forms. When the glucometer has turned on, touch the tip of the test strip to the blood.
In a few seconds, your meter should give a result.
The appropriate supplies for blood sugar testing include a glucometer (blood glucose meter), blood glucose test strips, lancets, and alcohol pads.
Do not make adjustments to your diabetes medications without checking with your prescriber first.
Lancets are for single use only. Never share them with someone else, and do not use a lancet more than once.
Dispose of lancets and used test strips appropriately in a designated sharps container.
