What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Eqvalan is a medicated paste for equine (horse) use and to treat parasite infections. It is a parasiticide used to kill strongyle worms, ascarid worms, hair and pinworms along with other types of worm infections known to be a common problem for horses. Eqvalan paste is also a treatment option for summer sores caused by Habronema and Draschia 3rd stage larvae . Horses take Eqvalan medication orally and it can contribute to their regular parasite control program. Foals as young as 6 to 8 years of age are eligible to take this horse dewormer medication, and it delivers broad-spectrum parasite control.


The standard Eqvalan dosage is 91mcg of medication for each lb of body weight. Each weight marking on the syringe plunger will indicate an amount corresponding to treat 250lb of body weight.

  • With plunger in hand turn the knurled ring 1/4 to the left and slide it so that the nearest barrel sets at the prescribed weight marking
  • Lock ring back into place by making a 1/4 turn to the right
  • Check to see that your horse's mouth does not have any feed in it
  • Remove cover tip of the syringe and insert into horse's mouth, placing it in space between teeth
  • Depress plunger and push down as far as possible to place medication on back of horse's tongue
  • Raise horse's head for a few seconds after administering the paste


The active ingredient in Eqvalan is Ivermectin.


Medication is to be given to horses only. Not suitable for other animals. Keep out of reach of children.

Smoking and eating while handling should be avoided.

Avoid contact with eyes and wash hands after use.

Be mindful of not contaminating ground or surface water when administering Eqvalan paste to horses.

Side Effects

Eqvalan side effects are uncommon but some horses my experience stomach discomfort, diarrhea, constipation, or general weakness and lethargy.
