What is a Generic Drug?

A generic drug is a copy of the brand-name drug with the same dosage, safety, strength, quality, consumption method, performance, and intended use. Before generics become available on the market, the generic company must prove it has the same active ingredients as the brand-name drug and works in the same way and in the same amount of time in the body.

Description

Femoston is a prescription medication used for hormone replace (HRT) therapy for menopausal and post-menopausal women to help them with reducing the severity of menopause symptoms. Femoston also protects against osteoporosis after menopause. The active ingredients Estradiol and dydrogesterone replace hormones and make hot flashes, night sweats and other menopause symptoms much more tolerable. Femoston is usually prescribed for hormone replacement therapy in short-term menopause symptom treatment.

Directions

Women who have regular periods can begin taking Femoston on the first day of their period. Women having irregular periods will have a starting day that is determined by their doctor.

The standard Femoston dosage is one tablet daily. Take tablets whole with a glass of water and it is best to take them around the same time everyday. The tablets are labelled with the days of the week to help make it easier for you.

Start by taking the tablets in the half of the packed with the '1' arrow. After finishing that half, begin on the tablets marked with the '2' arrow

If you forget to take a dose, do not take a make up dose. Resume taking your Femoston menopause medication at the same time the next day.

Ingredients

The active ingredients in Femoston are estradiol and dydrogesterone.

Cautions

Inform your doctor if you have any history of breast cancer, fibroids or other benign tumors, ovarian cancer, irregular bleeding, endometriosis, high blood pressure, liver or kidney problems, cholestatic jaundice, heart problems, diabetes, migraines, asthma, epilepsy, systemic lupus erythematosus, gall stones or gall bladder disease, high blood triglycerides, high or low blood calcium, hypothyroidism, abnormal vision, or otosclerosis (hearing loss) before starting on Femoston.

Interactions

The possibility of drug interaction risks exist between Femoston and other Rx medications and OTC supplements, including epilepsy medications like phenytoin, phenobarbital, and carbamazepine. Antibiotics like rifampicin and ritonavir, immunosuppressants like tacrolimus, immunomodulators like ciclosporin, painkillers like fentanyl, and asthma medication like theophylline. The herbal supplement St. John's Wort should be used with caution when taking Femoston. Side Effects

Femoston side effects are not common, but some users may experience mild pain, swelling of extremities, headache or migraine, elevated blood pressure, weakness or dizziness, back pain, sex drive changes, weight gain or weight loss, or dry / itchy skin and skin discoloration.
